Detroit Teachers Protest Public School Conditions
|
Detroit, Michigan - Public school teachers and parents rally as a judge hears the school district's request for an injunction to stop teacher sick-outs. Teachers have been calling in sick to draw attention to big class sizes, deteriorating school buildings, and the lack of supplies. The Detroit Public Schools have been run by state-appointed emergency managers for most of the past 15 years, during which enrollment has declined, class sizes have increased, and the district's debt has soared.
