University of Michigan Students Support Affirmative Action
|
Ann Arbor, Michigan - Students at the University of Michigan rally in support of affirmative action. Jarrett Smith, a sophomore from Philadelphia, wore a gag during a "Day of Silence" to symbolize the barriers to opportunity and equality that women and minorities would face if the so-called "Michigan Civil Rights Initiative" is approved. The measure, expected to be on the 2006 ballot, would forbid affirmative action by government agencies in Michigan.
