Denver, Colorado - A section of an ice core at the National Ice Core Laboratory shows bubbles trapped in the ancient ice. Scientists study the bubbles to determine the composition of the earth's atmosphere at the time the ice was formed. The data helps scientists study climate change and other issues. The National Ice Core Laboratory stores 19,000 meters of ice cores from Antarctica, Greenland, and North America. The lab is part of the U.S. Geological Survey, funded by the National Science Foundation.
