General Motors Recycles Oil Booms Into Material for Chevrolet Volt
|
Detroit, Michigan - At the factory where the Chevrolet Volt is assembled, General Motors showed off a recycling initiative which uses oil-soaked booms from from the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico to make plastic resin parts for the Volt. The oil boom material is used with other recycled plastic and recycled tires to make parts which deflect air around the Volt's radiator. GM expects to use 100 miles of oil boom for Volt parts.
