Students Study River Ecology
|
Redford, Michigan - Ninth grade students from Chandler Park Academy, a charter school, study the ecology of the Rouge River, which flows through many suburban Detroit communities before emptying into the Detroit River. They were participating in the annual Rouge Education Project in which students from dozens of schools monitor biological, chemical, and physical characteristics of the river. Here they float an orange down a measured stretch of river to judge the speed of the current. Teacher Chris Trepanowski waits to retrieve the orange in the river.
