Spring Celebration Banishes Evil Spirit from Detroit
|
Detroit, Michigan - A young woman gets help in fitting her corset before the Marche du Nain Rouge, which celebrates the coming of spring and banishes the Nain Rouge (Red Dwarf) from the city. Legend dating from the founding of Detroit in 1701 says that Le Nain Rouge is an evil spirit responsible for many of the ills haunting the city. The annual event to drive Le Nain from Detroit now has the feel of Mardi Gras, with a parade, street theater, costumes, and food and drink.
