Mariano Lake, New Mexico - A sign warns of radiation danger on the site of an abandoned uranium mine, one of more than 500 abandoned mines on Navajo Nation land. This site was operated by Gulf Mineral and, later, Chevron. It has contaminated ground water so that nearby residents must rely on trucked-in water supplies.
