Former Toxic Waste Dump Grows Crops for Bio-Fuels
|
Rose Center, Michigan - Researchers from Michigan State University are growing crops on the site of a Superfund toxic waste dump to study the use of such sites to produce ethanol or biodiesel fuel. Crops of corn, soybeans, sunflower, canola, and switchgrass will be tested for their potential to be refined into renewable fuels. If successful, the project could be a model for returning industrial or toxic dump sites to productive use.
