Tevatron Particle Accelerator at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab)
|
Batavia, Illinois - The 5,000-ton DZero Detector at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory's Tevatron particle accelerator. The Tevatron accelerated protons and antiprotons inside the vacuum beam pipe near the bottom to nearly the speed of light and crashed them together at the DZero to study the resulting shower of smaller particles. The Tevatron ceased operations in 2011 after the Large Hadron Collider opened in Europe.
