Activists Demand Dow Accept Responsibility for Bhopal Disaster
|
Midland, Michigan - Members of the environmental group Greenpeace joined survivors of the 1984 chemical disaster in Bhopal, India in picketing Dow Chemical's annual shareholders meeting. They demanded that Dow accept liability for the health care of those who were poisoned in the disaster and for cleaning up pollution from the plant. The chemical leak at Union Carbide's pesticide plant has killed 12,000, with up to 150,000 more suffering serious health effects. Dow bought Union Carbide in 2001.
