Tevatron Particle Accelerator at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab)
|
Batavia, Illinois - The entrance to the 5,000-ton DZero Detector at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory's Tevatron particle accelerator. The Tevatron accelerated protons and antiprotons to nearly the speed of light and crashed them together at the DZero to study the resulting shower of smaller particles. The Tevatron ceased operations in 2011 after the Large Hadron Collider opened in Europe. The flags represent the nationalities of scientists who worked on the project.
