Native Americans Oppose Huge Strip Mine

Ashland, Wisconsin - Members of the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa Tribe marched 42 miles around the Bad River watershed to show their opposition to Gogebic Taconite's plan for a huge open-pit taconite strip mine in the Penokee Hills. They say that runoff from mine tailings would pollute the Bad River, which flows through their reservation and into Lake Superior.
