Environmentalists Protest Administration Plans to Weaken Clean Air Regulations
|
Romulus, Michigan - Environmental activists picketed outside a public hearing of the Environmental Protection Agency, which was considering Bush administration proposals to weaken provisions of the Clean Air Act. The Bush proposals would make the cleanup of older, dirtier power plants, refineries, and other industrial polluters less likely. Among those picketing were Rasheed Fakhoury (foreground), a student at Crestwood High School in Dearborn Heights, and Dr. Kathryn Savoie, environmental program director for the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services.
