Volunteers Replace Lawn with Native Plants to Protect River

Farmington, Michigan - Volunteers replaced a grass lawn along the Upper Rouge River in a suburban Detroit park with a 75-foot buffer zone of native shrubs, flowers, and grasses. The buffer zone will improve water quality by helping stabilize the bank, filtering stormwater, shading and cooling the river, and creating wildlife habitat.
