Government Monitors Check Eligibility of Delegates to Vote in Teamster Elections
|
Las Vegas, Nevada - June 27, 2006 - Government monitors check the eligibility of delegates to the Teamsters Union convention to cast ballots in a nominating election for international union positions. The results will determine which candidates have enough support to be on the ballot when rank and file members of the union vote in the fall. Slates of candidates headed by Teamsters President James Hoffa and reformer Tom Leedham are competing for top union positions. The election is being supervised by the federal government because of past union corruption.
