Amache Internment Camp Becomes National Historic Site
|
Granada, Colorado - The World War II Amache Japanese internment camp in southeast Colorado became part of the National Park Service, as President Joe Biden signed a law making Amache a National Historic Site on March 18, 2022. More than 7,000 Japanese and Japanese-Americans were held at the site, one of 10 internment camps in the American west. Though all the buildings were demolished after the war, many foundations remain. A guard tower and several barracks have been reconstructed.
